Pet Peeve

I'm trying to teach T manners... to say hello, goodbye, please and thank you.  T says hi to everyone he sees and bye to anyone he sees leaving through a door.   It's annoying when my child is standing right in front of an adult and he says "hi" and this adult ignores him.  Would it kill you to acknowledge his presence and just say hi back!?  It is just RUDE!  I don't care that he's just a child.. he's a person and he is greeting you-- don't ignore him.

End of rant.

Shoot, Shag or Marry

I heard about this game on the radio today and I think it's awesome.  You're given a list of three people which you have to either shoot, shag or marry.  I've been playing this with C and it's interesting to see his answers.

1.  Kate (from Jon and Kate), Cathy Griffiths and Paula Abdoul
First he asked if he could just shoot himself.  He chose to shoot Kate for the satisfaction, shag Cathy because she's annoying and he couldn't live with her and marry Paula because he figures she'd be gone half the time.

2.  Mandy Moore, Jennifer Garner and Natalie Portman
This one took him forever... he asked if he HAD to shoot one.  He chose to shoot Jennifer, shag Natalie and Marry Mandy but he said the last two were interchangeable.
................
C asked me this one:

1. Mario Lopez, Ricky Martin and Scott Wolf
I said shoot Mario, shag Scott and marry Ricky... Mario is a man whore, Scott wolfe is cute but too short and Ricky.. well, he lives in Puerto Rico and has the same values.

Can you come up with your own list?

Making time...

I've always been a firm believer that, no matter how hard life gets, how busy our schedules become, you can always find time for the people you care about.

No matter how tired I am after working all day, those precious few moments I have with T, nobody can take away from me.  There are times I wish I could just sit and watch TV and not have to run after a 1.5 yearold but it's worth it to me to let me son know that he is loved and cared for.  You never know how fast time flies until you have a child who changes every second of every day.

C and I have "our" time after the beast goes to bed... while we tend to do our thing, we always have time to talk about our day and things we see on TV, etc.

I always make time to call my parents as you never know when they will no longer be around.  I love sharing with them what I'm up to and asking them for their take on things.  I will never regret any time spent talking to my mom and dad.

I try to keep up with my brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.. as many as there are.  I know what most of them are up to.  I call up my grandfather and my aunt who is battling cancer. I keep up with my aunt and uncle and cousins on facebook.

As far as friends go, I try to keep in touch either by phone or facebook or even see them now and then (this part is difficult with a toddler).

Now, yes, I do all those things, I work, I have a child and husband, a house to take care of, I blog, take photos, I work on my masters degree... and I have time for that.  Why is it that others don't have time to do it themselves?  Why can't my siblings call me first?  Why can't a friend remember to just call me and see how I'm doing for a change?  I do it because I care and I would hate to think that the reason others don't call is because they DON'T care...

Anyone else?

This hurt my brain...

I was submitting a video to Americas Funniest Home videos and then was reading up on the Summer Sweepstakes rules.... came across this one:

13.  If the randomly-selected winner is a Canadian resident, he/she must correctly answer an unaided mathematical skill-testing question by phone or mail in order to win.

WTF!?  What the heck does math have to do with submitting a video and winning?  Do they think Canadians can't handle 5,000 dollars and need to make sure they're mathematically astute?  Wow.

I am becoming my mother...

This is the topic S gave me to write about.  I was excited to write about it until I realized that I don't have enough character traits to become my mother--I could only wish and aspire to be half the woman she is.  In any case, there are a few emerging traits that have come about with the birth of T.  I am becoming my mother...

1.  I panic when my house is a mess when people are coming over and go on a cleaning frenzy beforehand.  I actually look forward to people coming over because that's when the house is at it's cleanest/neatest.

2.  I worry if people are fed, have had enough to eat and are comfortable.

3.  I say things like "Ten cuidado" and  "No tan rápido"

4.  I sing the same songs my mother sang to me and could care less if I can carry a tune or not... T loves it regardless.

5.  I actually have patience.  I don't have patience for anything else in the world, but I do with T.

6.  I call family members to see how they're doing and keep up to date records of where everyone is and what they're doing.

7.  I have to have my earrings on or I feel naked.

8.  I'm always fighting with the cat because he gets the floor dirty whereas my mother is always fighting with the dog because he gets the floor dirty.

9.  I pay attention to details and remember what people like to eat, drink, read, etc. so that I can give them thoughtful gifts.

10.  I garden and try to keep plants alive and actually enjoy tending to them.

11.  I take T outside to show him the wonders of nature just like my mom did with me.

12.  I listen to others and give advice when asked... but let others make their own decisions without imposing my opinions.

Ways I WISH I were like my mother

1.  She's selfless...has made many sacrifices for the family.

2.  She's hard-working... it seems that all she does is work!  I like my free time.

3.  She's patient with EVERYONE.

4.  She has a disposition that makes people open up to her...

5.  She somehow managed to keep a LARGE family fed, well cared for, worked, and kept a clean house... and I struggle with ONE child.

6.  She can cook up anything in no time and it's awesome.

7.  She gets her hair and nails done every month.

8.  She is wise and has good intuition.

I think a lot of this comes with time.  It's hard to believe that she's turning 60 in June and looks better than ever.  :)

It's the simple things...

1.  Clean house without having to clean it
2.  Sushi for dinner with fresh strawberries and cookies for dessert
3.  Spending time with my two men
4.  Knowing I'm not going to work tomorrow and a possibility I may not go the next day either :)
